Action fills Victoria Street for filming of TV show trailer

July 5, 2012

Downtown residents needn't be alarmed by the hostage situation at Jonathan Buchner Jewellery nor the military force on Victoria Street early Saturday morning.

Kamloops-based producer/director Shayne Turner said the dramatics are all in the name of entertainment and seeing his proposed TV series Dark Matters become a reality.

A key way to secure funding is a series trailer, a portion of which Turner will film in and around the city this weekend. He said some points of public interest on Saturday are:

* 5:30 a.m.: A military force will breach a building at 612 Victoria St.

* 7 a.m.: There will be a street closure from Fourth Avenue and Victoria Street to City Hall to accommodate a number of scenes involving motorcycles.

* 9 a.m.: A hostage taking will be staged at Jonathan Buchner Gems and Jewellery on Victoria Street.

Filming takes place on closed sets until 9 p.m. when a small team of soldiers will rappel down the west face of the former BMO building at the corner of Victoria and Second.

The production moves to a closed set at the Kamloops Fire and Rescue training center on McGill Road on Sunday.

Turner said the trailer will be posted to YouTube and iLoops in September.

Dark Moments is described as Magnum PI meets the Twilight Zone. The plot centres around a reporter who escapes his high-profile past by moving to a small newspaper, only to have a mysterious disappearance drag him back to reality.
