Continued repression of women anywhere is unacceptable today
In response to the letter by Sandra Hyslop I felt that I must respond. I agree with Sandra that the Saudis could be mild mannered, kind, generous and very caring people; however, that does not negate the cruelty of "Islamism" towards women.
This cartoon is not in poor taste but most importantly it is certainly not "racist." Not showing respect for "Islamism" which demeans women is entirely appropriate.
We are not property to be owned. We should not have to adhere to "Islamism" deciding what we should wear. We should not have to be stoned to death for being raped. We should not have to be disrespected because of the centuries-old edicts that "Islamism" represents.
We will not and cannot accept the repressive "Islamism" that these students are forced to live by. TRU should not be accepting of these archaic beliefs. Women in our country have been fighting against this kind of gender-based repression for the last century.
